Scope and Content
The file contains reports and newspaper cuttings from 1903. The file belongs to the Verfilmungsprojekt "Die Protokolle der Weisen von Zion" by the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich; Archiv für Zeitgeschichte; Zeitungsberichte von 1903 bis 1935. Parts from the newspaper "Ost und West" (East and West), with the topic of 'Die Juden von Gestern' (The Jews from yesterday) are presented. In this Leo Winz informs about the third Zionist congress in Basel and about Theodor Herzl. Additionally a report of Achad Haam 'Altneuland' can be seen. Winz founded together with Davis Trietsch the magazine East and West, which he led until 1923 as a responsible editor. 1903 appeared under Winz' aegis, the first issue of the satirical magazine Zionist Schlemihl. The magazine was continued by Max Jungmann without Winz, as he, by publishing a criticism work of Ahad Ha'am on Theodor Herzl novel OldNewLand in East and West 1903, had become a non-person in Zionist circles.
