Scope and Content

This file contains newspaper clips from several countries written in German, English and French. The clippings were published during 1937 and deal with different topics concerning the Berne trial. On the one hand, testimonial statements and expert statements concerning bible researchers are analyzed in more detail. Furthermore, the judgments of the Bernese court is explained and discussed. The falsified Protocols of wise men of Zion are again illustrated and compared with the testimonies. The (second) verdict of the Higher Regional Court (Berner Obergericht), was the acquittal of the defendants without compensation. The accusation did not come within the scope of article 14 of the Bernese code on the prohibition of immoral literature, under which the appellants had been convicted. However, both Theodor Fischer and Silvio Schnell were sentenced to fines. Other newspapers report about an other trial before the high court , which refused the obligation of the private plaintiffs Silvio Schnell and Theodor Fischer, to pay the costs of defence of the acquitted defendants explaining that "the one who circulates such sort of most vulgar instigating articles has to pay himself the costs resulting from them." Other newspaper published: Immoral, but outside law" as a headline to describe the verdict. Also the German funds for the trial and the antisemitic propaganda during the trial are mentioned in several articles,
