Scope and Content
The file contains several documents regarding the trial in Basel concerning the speading of the 'protocols of the wise man of Zion'. The charge was against Dr. Alfred Zander, who was a leader of the 'National Front', a National Socialist-oriented movement in Switzerland and the editor of the newspaer the 'Eiseren Besen'. The plaintiffs have been Jules Dreyfus-Brodsky, presedent of the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities, Dr. Marcus Cohn president of the Swiss Federation of Zionist Communities and Dr. Marcus Ehrenpreis, who served as chief rabbi of Stockholm. Dr. Alfred Zander published an article in which he explained that the as forgery declaired protocols are 'stilll real'. Newspaper cuttings seen in this file report about the impoundment of 780 copies and about some details of the Basel trial. In addition documents and letters regarding the trial are attached. As newspapers inform, the Bern trial from 1935 already sentenced the 'Protocols' as forgery and trashy literature. The Basel trial ended with a out of court settlement between Zander and the plaintiffs. All the leaflets have been distroyed and the case was closed.
