Scope and Content
The file contains two letters by Alexandre du Chayla, a witness in the Bern Trial, written in 1937. The first letter contains information on du Chayla's time in the military of the Don Cossacks. He speaks of the positions he held in the military such as Chief Interpreter. Furthermore, he mentions details from his service such as his friendly relationship with the General of the Cavalry of the Don Cossacks, Alexey Kaledin. In addition, du Chayla was asked by the lieutenant generals Sidonine and Keltchevsky to develop a "new ideology of fight" whose doctrine should be spread by the newspaper "Le Messager du Don". General of the White Army Wrangel considered this an attempt to hurt his power and consequently brought Sidonine, Keltchevsky and du Chayla to trial. Du Chayla ends the first letter saying he was never condemned to neither an effective nor a disciplinary penalty. In the second letter, he adds details to his previous letter and explains his whereabouts in the near future and his contact information.
