Scope and Content
A novel based on the author's firsthand experiences with the Red Army. It describes the partisan activities around Lake Ilmen against German forces. The importance of the geographical terrain, of the "fortress of woodland", stands out. Partisan warfare is analyzed, with the story revolving around the forester Nevsky, leader of a group of partisans fighting against the Germans, collaborators and traitors.
