Die Lage der Kinder in Polen
Extent and Medium
1 electronic resource (13 pages)
Scope and Content
The typewritten report discusses the dire situation of Polish children who suffer from lack of nutrition through the intentionally inadequate rationing cards. Children lack not only food, but vitamins, cheese and milk or honey which until 1941 could reach Poland through American channels, but thereafter are impossible to acquire even in the black market. Orphanages, childcare and rehabilitation centers are closed. Diseases and child mortality have increased significantly. Clothing, shelter and firewood is hard to come by. Resettlement policies and reprisals are further endangering the lives of adults, and even more their children. Many are arrested for loitering and recruited for forced labor.
