Scope and Content
The publication written in French discusses the position of the Pope and the Catholic church, in light of the increasing racist and discriminatory situation in Nazi Germany. It lists ten incidents in 1937 when the Pope protested in public in speeches or encyclicals. The problems and challenges National Socialism poses for the Church are discussed in detail. In a separate chapter the papal encylica “Mit brennender Sorge” (with burning concern) is analyzed and its implications considered. The persecution of religious believers and show court trials for propaganda purposes are condemned. A new secular spirit present in two major countries in Europe (Germany and Russia), whose increasing influence is seen with great concern.
