Scope and Content
The publication provides an account of the resistance around Vercors, the mountainous area near Grenoble known as “The Citadelle”. In 1944 it became known as the Free Republic of Vercors, established by the Maquis du Vercors. The history and structure of the Maquis and their strategic plans are explained. A summary of acts of sabotages and attacks is provided, as well as setbacks, arrests, deaths (Saint Nizier, Valchevriere-Herboully, Vassieux) and finally liberation.
