Scope and Content
The approximately 7 000 camp prisoner registry cards (the so called Häftlingspersonalkarte) that can be found at the Hungarian Jewish Archive contain detailed personal information on prisoners of Mauthausen concentration camp and its subcamps. The cards provide the following pieces of information: name of the prisoner, date of birth, place of birth, previous occupation, address, religion, citizenship, place of residence of relatives, and personal physical features. The cards also provide information on from where the prisoner was taken to Mauthausen and to what kommandos (work units) he/she was assigned. The collection holds the cards only of inmates who were deported from Hungary. The documents are predominantly, though not exclusively records of Hungarian Jews who had been inmates of Mauthausen and its various subcamps.
System of Arrangement
The collection is in a loose alphabetic order.
