Biographical History

Founded in the American occupied zone in Germany in 1947 the Jewish Cultural Reconstruction Inc. (JCR) was tasked with compiling and distributing heirless Jewish cultural property.

Scope and Content

Correspondence regarding the distribution of books including two items formerly in possession of the Centralverein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens (C.V). Contained are two letters from and to Hannah Arendt who served as JCR executive secretary at that time and who had met with Wiener Library staff member Ilse R. Lowenthal during a visit of London in January 1950.
