Biographical History
Tábor was founded in 1420 by the Hussites. The town was headed by four elected governors. Tábor became a royal town in 1750 and Maria Theresa promoted Tábor to regional town (remaining so until 1848). In 1960, Tábor became the center of a large district, which also included the existing Soběslav district, and parts of the Milevsko, Votice, Pacov and Týn nad Vltavou districts. Political district: Tábor. Judicial district: Tábor.
Archival History
The original town archives only consisted of town privileges. Books and files were stored in the registry office. In 1871, two appraisals of documents were carried out leading to destruction of files and books from the 17th and 18th centuries and files from the late 18th century to 1851. After the founding of the town museum in 1878, the town archives became part of it. The remains of the town archives were processed in 1890—1894, and in 1962 an inventory list was made. Other documents of the fonds were handed over to the archives in 1958-2015. The fonds was processed and a registry finding aid was made.
