  1. Herbst family papers

    The Herbst family papers document the prewar, wartime, and postwar experiences of Manny Herbst, his siblings Bernard Herbst and Silvia Herbst, and his parents Adolf Herbst and Sara Herbst (née Weintraub), including the siblings’ immigration to the United States in 1940, Adolf’s attempt to get to Palestine, and subsequent deportation to Mauritius in 1940, and Sara’s deportation from Vienna to Izbica transit camp in 1942.   2. Endzweig family papers

    Comprised of correspondence, photographs, and identity documents, such as work permits and registration certificates for Leopold Endzweig, annotated by his son, the donor, Manfred Endzweig. Documents capture Leopold Endzweig's experiences once liberated from Buchenwald.

  3. Albert and Alice Genis collection

    Consists of documents and family photographs that capture the pre- and postwar experiences of Albert and Alice Genis (formerly Genichowicz), the donor's parents. Additional documents include certificates indicating their residency of the Foehrenwald displaced persons camp from 1945 to 1951, papers related to their university studies in Munich, their ketubah, and their 1958 US Naturalization certificates after they immigrated to United States in 1951.

  4. Paulis liberation photographs collection

    Includes photographs taken or inscribed en verso by United States soldier Andrew Paulis of the 628th Medical Clearing Company, one of the first soldiers' units to arrive at Buchenwald Concentration Camp after its liberation on April 11, 1945.

  5. Lobsenz family papers

    Consists of correspondence between extended Lobsenz (formerly Lubzens) relatives in Poland, the Warsaw ghetto, and Łódź ghetto, and loved ones in the United States, including the donor's father, Jack Lobsenz, who immigrated to the US from Lipno, Poland in 1920. Also includes a photo in a portfolio, photographic postcards, a money order receipt, an envelope, and a certificate.

  7. Marokus family collection

    The papers consist of photographs related to the Marokus family, Leon, Lajcia, Henryka, and Pola. Leon Marokus, who immigrated to the United States in 1938 from Poland, worked to bring over his wife and daughters. Also included is a leaflet picked up by Leon while in the military during WWII.

  8. Ludwig May reisepass

    Includes the Deutsches Reich Reisepass, or passport, of Dr. Ludwig May (1903-1973), who was a passenger aboard the MS St. Louis after his 1938 internment at Buchenwald.

  9. 1933 Reichstag election material

    A bound collection of printed, German-language materials relating to the March 5, 1933 Reichstag election in Germany. The dated materials range from January to March 5, 1933, though many are undated. They include portions of text from newspapers and magazines, as well as some advertising materials and smaller propaganda pieces. At the back, an oversize propaganda poster has been folded numerous times to make it fit within the book. All the pieces are bound between hard, black covers, and the front cover bears a handwritten label, “Material Reichstagswahl 5. Marz 1933”.

  10. George Kolinsky collection

    Consists of the handwritten memoir of George Kolinsky (1892-1974), the donor's maternal grandfather, and its English translation, titled A History of the Recent Past, 1939-1945. It was written originally in Yiddish following his arrival in the United States from Poland in 1951 after serving in the underground there between 1939 and 1945.

  11. Escape from Treblinka: The Joseph Polonski Story

    This documentary film details the Holocaust experience of Joseph Polonski, one of two known individuals to escape from the Treblinka death camp. The film profiles Polonski's life before, during, and after the Holocaust.   12. Manifesto des Juifs de Bedeau

    Consists of the document "Manifesto des Juifs de Bedeau" in French and a vintage mimeographed copy of the typed documen that is double-sided. It was written by the donor's father Sidney Chouraqui when he was leader of the resistance movement in Bedeau Internment Camp in Algeria.

    Includes the typewritten testimony of Holocaust survivor Eric D. Meier

  14. Leonard Reedy collection

    Consists of documents and photographs compiled in a multi-page document that illustrates Nazi war crimes and atrocities committed at the Helmbrechts concentration camp for forced labor and the Volary (Vondnany) death march. The evidence was brought to the United States from Germany by the donor’s father, Leonard Earl Reedy, Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army.

    Consists of two bound collections of printed campaign materials relating to the September 14, 1930 and July 31, 1932 Reichstag elections in Germany. The materials include clippings from newspapers and magazines as well as some illustrated advertisements, small propaganda pieces, and political cartoons. Both volumes are labeled "Material Reichstagswahl" with their corresponding dates.
