  1. Collection of documents from the German Consulates in Palestine (RG-67)

    Documents of German consulates in Jerusalem, Jaffa, and Haifa, including records of relations with the Ottoman authorities, tax matters, the acquisition of property, Jewish immigration, civil and criminal cases, representation of German interests by the Spanish Consulate (1917-1926), and a variety of other subjects. Collection reflects Germany’s takeover of the Austrian Consulate in 1938. The collection also documents the Haavara Agreement between Nazi Germany, the Zionist Federation of Germany, the Anglo-Palestine Bank, and the Jewish Agency.

The majority of the correspondence is between the Kleinberg siblings and their immediate families, with the many of the letters coming from Zofia Minder in Krakow and Lola Schifeldrim, a close family friend who worked for Irena’s husband, Ferdynand Keiner and assisted Roman’s wife and daughters. Isaac Nehama joined a partisan unit and survived the Holocaust; Isaac and his father Dario Nehama, survived in hiding in Athens, but Sarah Kolonomos Nehama (donor's mother) and Nehama Norman Nehama (donor's youngest brother) were murdered in Auschwitz in August 1944; Samuel Nehama (donor's brother) survived the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.

    10 mark coin issued in the Łódź ghetto in Poland in 1943. Nazi Germany occupied Poland on September 1, 1940; Łódź was renamed Litzmannstadt and annexed to the German Reich. In February, the Germans forcibly relocated the large Jewish population into a sealed ghetto. All currency was confiscated in exchange for Quittungen [receipts] that could be exchanged only in the ghetto.
