  1. Czech refugee in Great Britain: report of flight into exile

    Report which documents the flight into exile of a Czech civil servant and his wife via Katovice, Poland, thence to England. The deposit comprises a manuscript version in German and a typescript version in English. The report offers a valuable insight into the difficulties encountered by Czech emigrés in the immediate aftermath of the German occupation in 1939.

    A 22-page handwritten memoir in Russian regarding donor's life (there is also a 2-page English summary). Four photocopied pages of documents in Russian attesting to donor and donor's family in ghettos, Litin (now in Ukraine) and Zhmerinka (Zhmerynka, Ukraine).

  10. Al Sommer, Jr. letter relating to Ohrdruf

    Contains a typescript photocopy of a letter from Al Sommer Jr., while in the United States Army during World War II, to his parents relating to his experience at the liberated Ohrdruf concentration camp.

  11. Marlene Shapiro photograph collection

    The collection consists of six photographs of the Sendach family in Poland and of a group of boys in the Mizrahi organization before World War II. Some photographs have captions in Yiddish on the verso.

  12. Nordhausen liberation photographs

    Consists of five photographs taken after the liberation of the Nordhausen concentration camp in 1945. The photographs are mounted on black photograph album paper and described as "Nordhausen Concentration Camp, Germany 1945."

  13. Reichenbach photographs

    Consists of two pre-war photographs discovered by Marsha Hollander in Reichenbach, Poland, in 1946. One photograph depicts a line of Jewish men walking down a road and the other depicts two Jewish men standing next to an automobile. The captions read "Polish Jews returning home," and "Polish Jews greet us on our arrival."

  14. Blum and Manuel Family collection

    Contains correspondence received by Margot Manuel in New York from her relatives in Germany. The majority of the letters were written by her parents, Leopoldine and Hermann Manuel, as well as brother Alfons and Siegfried. Leopoldine and Hermann Manuel, as well as Siegfried, did not survive the Holocaust.

    Contains a certificate of residence issued to Pinkas Suss giving him rights to remain in his hometown, including stamp used as a passport, issued January 22, 1929; an identification card issued to George Suss (donors' father) from an Austrian scout organization, 1927; and a wedding portrait of the donors' parents, dated 15 December 1945.
