  3. Selected records relating to Romania's communist government's attempt to obtain Holocaust-related restitution from the Federal Republic of Germany

    The collection contains reproductions of Russian restitution applications as well as general records concerning the collaboration between Romanian and German authorities from 1938-1941. All records are translated into both Romanian and German. The records are organized in 31 containers that were given to the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1971 by the Romanian Ambassador to Germany.     This collection consists of hospital records of patients. The records include: surname and first name, religion and age, family status, names of parents, place and date of residence, occupation, reasons for which the sick person was admitted, the ward, date (admission, discharge, death), type of illness, number of hospital days; and financial files: the daily rate, the amount in total for treatment and other services, the amount paid, the number and date of the cash receipt, and remarks. The sections on personal data, except for first and last name, were not always completed in practice.

    Passports of Jews who emigrated to Palestine in 1938-1939 and lost their Polish citizenship [Files 1423-1490]. Their passports were returned to Poland by the Polish Consulate as invalid. Passports include personal data and photos, sometimes it is a photo of the whole family. The collection also contains official correspondence.     Halutzka or peasant blouse with embroidered flowers made by Shoshana Galicki Feizensztajn, about 16 years old, as a parting gift for her sister Chava when she left their hometown of Siedlce, Poland, for Palestine in 1933. Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union invaded Poland in September 1939. Siedlce was in Soviet controlled territory. In June 1941, Germany invaded the Soviet Union.
