    Apparently authentic account of imprisonment in Spain during the Spanish Civil war by an unidentified Austrian Jew. The events described took place in 1936 and the account was, according to the author, written in Vienna in 1937.

  8. Correspondence and papers regarding Georg August Welz

    This collection of correspondence relates to a letter which Elizabeth Castonier had published in the Süddeutscher Zeitung in August 1958, alleging the culpability of Professor Georg August Weltz, then Professor of X-Ray Physiology at the university of Munich, in war crimes, specifically medical experiments on prisoners to test how their bodies react to extremely cold temperatures. The collection includes a copy of an affidavit by Weltz, dated 1946.

    This collection comprises a photocopy and transcript of the diary for the year 1942 of SS-Sturmbannfuehrer Dr Rudolf Brandt, Himmler's former personal Referent. The entries record the details hour by hour of telephone conversations and consultations between Brandt, Himmler and outsiders. In a covering note, as if to make a point,the depositor highlights the infrequency of references to the Final Solution.

    These copy personal papers of Irmgard Smurka (née Klinger) document the life of a German Jewish resident of Berlin who emigrated to Great Britain after the war. The papers include school certificates; birth, marriage and death certificates; job references, etc. Of particular interest is an affidavit of 1961 submitted by Irmgard Smurka in support of a claim for compensation, in which she details the victimisation she endured during the nazi era (-/14).   15. Copy letter re conditions at Drancy

    This copy letter re conditions in Drancy during the Nazi era was enclosed with an account of life in Drancy called There by the Grace of God by the depositor, A.R. Thomas. The latter is now housed with the Unpublished Memoirs, Number 4101. The letter, which is addressed to Serge Klarsfeld, the prominent Nazi hunter, is signed by five former British merchant navy seamen who were prisoners at Drancy. The purpose of the letter is to offer support to Klarsfeld in his prosecution of Paul Touvier, a former member of the regime at Drancy.
