United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Vivian Berger
Vivian Berger donated this collection to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in February 2009. The original collection of correspondence is part of the Zygmunt William Birnbaum collection at the University of Washington. The original artwork was donated to Yeshiva University.
Scope and Content
Consists of an extensive description of a collection of correspondence related to the wartime experiences of Jacob (Jakob or Kubus) and Henryka (Rita) Both Berger. Includes a chronological description of each piece of correspondence with listed historical events providing context. The correspondence, lasting from 1936-1976, begins when the Bergers were living in Vienna, and includes information about their immigration to London in 1939 and the United States in 1940. The original correspondence is part of the Zygmunt William Birnbaum collection at the University of Washington Library. Also includes an art catalog of the collection of Jacob and Rita Berger, which was donated to Yeshiva University. The preface of the art catalog contains an essay written about the lives and Holocaust experiences of Jacob and Rita Berger, written by their daughter, Vivian Berger. The collection also includes a family tree.
