Biographical History

Johannes Vosskamp (1896-1945) was a veteran of World War I and so were his brothers. It is unclear when he became a Nazi party member. In World War II, he was drafted at the age of 46 (ca. 1942) as part of "Organisation Todt" behind the lines. He was sent to Serbia and was declared "missing in action" at the end of the war in 1945.

A group from a "Sunday-school" on Quadtstrasse in Duisburg Meiderich meets at the train station and goes to Bottrop, 25 km NE of Duisburg, for a day of fun. Boys on the train station platform in Oberhausen. The train pulls into the station. The large group (approx. 100 participants) run to board the train. CUs, children on the train. They arrive at Bottrop Nord train station, and debark. One child holds a rifle in a brown bag. More close shots of the trip participants at the train station. Walking to town, a mother pushes baby carriage, followed by a larger group of participants. 01:04:01 Destination "Haus Waldfriede", which served as a meeting place. Close shot of older men, introduced jokingly on slate as "Der Fuehrerstab", inquiring about provisions from the gentleman in a white jacket. Cakes are delivered from the back of a truck. Various shots of the guests conversing and playing outdoors. 01:06:43 Johannes on the left and his oldest brother Dietrich settle the cake delivery. The oldest and youngest attendees. Trip participants play at an amusement park (slide, merry-go-round, see-saw) and return to the train station on foot. Quick shot of a dial inside the train. Film begins and ends with brief shots of a boat in the water, which could be film leader.

Note(s)

  • The original can label said "Nurnberg". The can also contained with Film #3.

  • This summer Sunday school trip was affiliated with a Christian association that gathered in a hall located on Quadtstrasse. The hall was also the place of worship for a Lutheran congregation that some Vosskamp family members participated in (they played the organ at services).
