  3. Bedcover recovered by the Gleiser family

    Velvet bedcover used in Pidvolochysʹk (formerly Podwołocziska), in the Tarnopol district, where more than 2,000 Jews lived before 1939. The Gleiser family lived there until they were forced into Pidvolochysk ghetto. Ita Bier Gleiser (b. 1895) escaped together with her children, Moishe (b. 1923), Genia (b. 1926), Riwa (b. 1922), and Frima (b. 1936), and hid in different places until the liberation in 1944.     Minutes of sessions and resolutions of the Municipal Council of Wierzbnik (a part of Starachowice) related to a number of matters affecting the inhabitants of the town, including documents related to control of migration, correspondence and other documents related to trade, craft and industry. Also included are materials from the German occupation consisting of official orders, announcements and correspondence, including a document from 1940 (File 46) which refer to Jews, and a list of Jews with compulsory employment (948 people).

    The collection primarily consists of family correspondence received by Aaron Tunick, originally of Stołpce, Poland (Stolbsty or Stowbtsy, Belarus), after he emigrated from Poland in 1934. The bulk of the letters (1936-1941) are from his siblings, and in particular Henja and Yitzhak. The letters discuss a deteriorating situation, loss of their businesses because they are Jewish, a rise in antisemitism, and an urgency to flee Poland.   16. Spiegel family collection

    Contains documents, photographs and correspondence regarding the experiences of Max and Ida Spiegel and their children Ruth and Alfred, who fled Emden, Germany. Photographs depict the family primarily before the second World War, including images from WWI. The family was able to immigrate to the United States in September 1938. Also includes a booklet detailing the Spiegel family tree, letters from extended family that did not survive, and a pre-war autograph book.

  17. Yosef Yeger collection

    Contains photographs, copyprints, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and two copies of a manuscript relating to the Holocaust experiences of Alexander Shoni Jeger (donor's father; b. October 30, 1930 near Bacău, Romania). In 1942, his mother, Ettel Leida (nee Katz) Jeger, took her two sons, Sandor and Marton (b. July 12, 1933) to Budapest, where she worked as a cook. In 1944 she was taken to a train station for deportation, but when she fainted she was taken to hospital. Both children were in the ghetto. Ettel and her sons survived.
