    Copy report of the Auswärtiges Amt regarding a confidential letter from Rabbi Wise to leading American Jews, which proved that the leaders of International Jewry realise that the fight against Jews in Germany is spreading to other countries where Jews played a leading role and he suggests that money must be raised to get 100,000 to 150,000 Jews out of Germany so that the antisemitic propaganda should come to an end

    This collection contains the personal papers of Jewish refugee Berta Einstein who emigrated to London in 1939 just before the outbreak of the Second World War.Personal papers Including birth certificate, qualifications, work references, letter of recommendation by the Jewish Religious Committee of Memmingen, correspondence with the Co-ordinating Committee for Refugees regarding her application for work in England, list of items taken to England, medical certificate as well as photographs and correspondence with family and friends.

  5. Arnold Rosé: copy documents re wartime musical activities

    The collection was deposited at the Wiener Library on the instruction of Richard Newman, co-author of Alma Rosé: Vienna to Auschwitz, Amadeus, USA, 2000. Alma Rosé was Arnold's daughter and became the conductor of the Auschwitz orchestra, where she died in 1944. Whilst the book obviously focuses on the experiences of Alma there is substantial biographical account of many members of the family including her father and his relation to the Mahler family.

    This collection contains the personal papers of Elise Steiner, a former Jewish refugee from Vienna who arrived in England on a Kindertransport in 1938.   14. High court for the British zone in Cologne: Copy appeal judgement against Petersen et al

    Readers need to reserve a reading room terminal to access a digital version of this archive.This authenticated copy of an appeal court judgement concerns the case of former ship captain, Rudolf Jasper Petersen, and 6 colleagues who are accused of summarily executing a number of the ship's crew for desertion, in the night of 5-6 May 1945. The original verdicts were quashed for all but 2 of the defendants. In addition there is an apparently unrelated copy expert opinion, dated 1946, on the treatment of 'denouncers'

  15. Kristallnacht: List of synagogues destroyed and eyewitness testimonies

    985/1 consists of responses, most of which are dated November/ December 1939. In addition, there is a list of respondents. The project's results comprised a set of statistics on the fate of Germany's synagogues (985/2). The fate of the synagogues was still a subject of interest in 1959 as evidenced by a copy of a letter on the subject from C. C. Aronsfeld (985/3). 985/2 also contains a list dated 1960.

  16. Edgar Duchin: working papers re refugees from Nazi Europe

    This collection of papers relating to the fate of refugees from Nazi Europe was part of the working papers of Edgar Duchin (formerly Duchinsky), a solicitor who worked on behalf of refugees. A number of organisations dealing with the problems of refugees are represented. The papers at -/5 which document his activities viz representing the interests of individual refugees and his presence on a number of committees involved in similar work are testament to his commitment to the cause of refugees.

  17. Ilse Murray Collection

    The collection consists of personal papers of Holocaust survivors Ilse Murray neé Perl and her son Claus Nicholas Perl as well as of Red Cross worker Enid Fordham.Biographical materials of Ilse and Claus comprise official documents and eyewitness accounts, and allow insights into their persecution and imprisonment in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.   18. Jewish Relief Unit: personnel files

    This collection consists of the personnel files of former members of the Jewish Relief Unit. This organization, which was based in Great Britain, provided support and assistance of all kinds to Jewish Displaced Persons in the aftermath of the war in Germany. Of particular interest are reports of conditions at individual camps.

  19. Lichtenstein and Rothschild Families Collection

    The material in this collection allows insights into life and persecution of members of two Jewish families from Austria and Germany. While the rather administrational documents refer primarily to the Lichtenstein family, the included photographs depict members and social life of the Rothschild family.
