  1. Harvey J. Poppe collection

    The collection consists of a pair of shoes relating to the experiences of Harvey J. Poppe, a soldier in the United States Army, who assisted in post-liberation aid activities at Dachau concentration camp from April to May 1945.

  2. "Mamma's Ark"

    Consists of one memoir, entitled "Mamma's Ark," 169 pages, by Julia B. Schor (born Ensel). In the memoir, Julia, who was known as Julia Schink during the war, describes her family's history, her childhood in the Netherlands, anti-Semitic persecutions and arrests, and the decision of her mother, Rosemarie, to join the resistance movement, hiding Jews in the attic of their home.

  3. Gerda Bierzonski Bikales diary

    Consists of one diary, handwritten in French, by Gerda Bierzonski (later Bikales), documenting her experiences at the Pensionnat Marta Marcus in Clarens-sur-Montreux, Switzerland. Gerda, who had escaped into Switzerland, attended the Pensionnat, a Jewish boarding school for girls, and kept her diary from July to December 1944. In December, she reunited with her mother in France. Also contains English translation of diary.

  4. Rabbi Judah Nadich papers

    The Rabbi Judah Nadich papers consist of material related to Rabbi Nadich’s work as a Jewish chaplain in the United States Army from 1942-1945, and his work as the Senior Jewish Chaplain at SHAEF from 1945-1946 reporting to General Dwight D. Eisenhower on the conditions in former concentration camps and in displaced persons camps.   6. E. Jeff Baron collection

    Consists of documents, historical information, and correspondence related to E. Jeff Baron's work with the American Merchant Marine Museum on a project commemorating the story of the President Warfield / Exodus voyage in 1947. Includes information related to plans to raise the Exodus and to honor William Bernstein, an American who was killed in the incident. Also includes Dr. Baron's film treatment and unfinished historical novel related to the Exodus, as well as oral history interviews with Exodus crew members William (Bill) Millman, Bernard Marks, and Nathan Nadler.

  7. George Zielezinski collection

    The collection consists of a portfolio of prints, number 0004, 24 drawings from the concentration camps in Germany, by George Zieleziński, created soon after he was liberated from the Dachau concentration camp and published in Munich, Germany, in 1946.

"Mensch ohne Heimat" [Man Without a Country], in German with an English translation, is an autobiographical work related to Adler's life in Lyon, France, from the outbreak of World War II to his enlistment in the French Foreign Legion.     Consists of two class photographs from the Jewish school on Lützowstrassse in Köln (Cologne), Germany. The donor, Josef Aretz, is pictured in both photographs.

    Records of Majdanek concentration camp on the plunder of Jewish property, including “receipts” for confiscated valuables, copies of bills for goods sold, requests for supplies from storehouses, inventories, and name lists of Jewish forced laborers. Some documents concern valuables transferred from Lublin-Majdanek to the storehouse on Chopin Street. Some of the property went directely to individual SS officers, or was sent to the Reich.

    Consists of documents, newspaper clippings, photographs, and an oral history related to Hyman Robert (Bob) Levitan, a World War II veteran who became the captain of the SS Ben Hecht and illegally transported a group of refugees, mainly Holocaust survivors, to Palestine in 1947. The ship was intercepted by British warships and the passengers and crew were imprisoned. The crew was released after six months, while the refugees were eventually allowed into Palestine.   19. Maria and Sarah Lichtsztejn collection

    Consists of writings, 23 pages, by Maria Korenbaum Lichtsztejn and her daughter, Sarah Lichtsztejn of Paris, France. Includes a biographical page entitled "Maria Lichtsztejn: Her life, before, during and after the Holocaust," and a memoir by Sarah Lichtsztejn (published in the newspaper in 1958) entitled "The Tragic Anniversary of July, 1942" in which she describes her memories of the Vel d'Hiver round-up in Paris, and life in Drancy and Auschwitz. Also includes a brief memoir entitled "March 15, 1945," by Sarah Lichtsztejn about their liberation at Bergen-Belsen in April 1945.

  20. Felix Kaszub collection

    Consists of documents, photographs, and identity paperwork related to the Holocaust experiences of Felix Kaszub, originally of Krośniewice, Poland. Includes post-war documents describing how Mr. Kaszub's health was affected by his wartime experiences, listing that he was imprisoned in the Krośniewice ghetto, in Auschwitz, and in Buchenwald, among others. Also includes Mr. Kaszub's United States naturalization paperwork, passports, and paperwork regarding a 1959 trip to Poland.
