Jeff Baron's work with the American Merchant Marine Museum on a project commemorating the story of the President Warfield / Exodus voyage in 1947. Includes information related to plans to raise the Exodus and to honor William Bernstein, an American who was killed in the incident. Also includes Dr. Baron's film treatment and unfinished historical novel related to the Exodus, as well as oral history interviews with Exodus crew members William (Bill) Millman, Bernard Marks, and Nathan Nadler.

    Records of Majdanek concentration camp on the plunder of Jewish property, including “receipts” for confiscated valuables, copies of bills for goods sold, requests for supplies from storehouses, inventories, and name lists of Jewish forced laborers. Some documents concern valuables transferred from Lublin-Majdanek to the storehouse on Chopin Street. Some of the property went directely to individual SS officers, or was sent to the Reich.

    Consists of documents, newspaper clippings, photographs, and an oral history related to Hyman Robert (Bob) Levitan, a World War II veteran who became the captain of the SS Ben Hecht and illegally transported a group of refugees, mainly Holocaust survivors, to Palestine in 1947.   14. Maria and Sarah Lichtsztejn collection

    Consists of writings, 23 pages, by Maria Korenbaum Lichtsztejn and her daughter, Sarah Lichtsztejn of Paris, France. Includes a biographical page entitled "Maria Lichtsztejn: Her life, before, during and after the Holocaust," and a memoir by Sarah Lichtsztejn (published in the newspaper in 1958) entitled "The Tragic Anniversary of July, 1942" in which she describes her memories of the Vel d'Hiver round-up in Paris, and life in Drancy and Auschwitz. Also includes a brief memoir entitled "March 15, 1945," by Sarah Lichtsztejn about their liberation at Bergen-Belsen in April 1945.

  15. Felix Kaszub collection

    Consists of documents, photographs, and identity paperwork related to the Holocaust experiences of Felix Kaszub, originally of Krośniewice, Poland. Includes post-war documents describing how Mr. Kaszub's health was affected by his wartime experiences, listing that he was imprisoned in the Krośniewice ghetto, in Auschwitz, and in Buchenwald, among others. Also includes Mr. Kaszub's United States naturalization paperwork, passports, and paperwork regarding a 1959 trip to Poland.

    The collection consists of artifacts, documents, photographs, and publications relating to the experiences of Hirsch (George) Birman as a forced laborer in the ghetto in Kovno (Kaunas), Lithuania, and as a prisoner in Kedahnen concentration camp in Lithuania during the Holocaust, and as a displaced person and Bricha worker registering refugees for illegal immigration in Vienna, Austria, following World War II.

  17. The diaries of Hermann Pressman

    Hermann Pressman's diaries commence on 21 July 1932, which coincided with his 18th birthday. Mr. Pressman used the 30 German marks he received as his birthday present to purchase the diary. The diary illustrates the difficulties endured by Hermann and his Jewish family during the Nazi ascendancy, detailing harassment, violence, economic marginalization, escape to Belgium, and eventual emigration to the United States.

    Consists of material related to the life of Tassia (Tasia, Taisiya) Jolly (born Taisia Hlamionok, later Tchernoff), originally of Polotsk, Soviet Union. The collection contains Tasia's memoir, in which she describes her childhood as a non-Jew under Stalin. Her father, who opposed communism, was killed in 1937, and in 1941, after the German invasion of the Soviet Union, the citizens of her Polotsk were deported to the Salaspils concentration camp.
