  2. Reunion of the Kindertransport: 50th anniversary papers

    This collection of material relates to the 50th anniversary of the Kindertransporte, which saved some 10,000 German, Austrian and Czech Jews from the Nazis in 1938/9.   3. Dr. Karl and wife Katharina Schreiner: copy correspondence and papers re Nazi persecution

    The papers document the persecution by the nazis of Karl Schreiner, formerly a lawyer, and his wife Katharina, from Trier, from 1934-1942. They demonstrate the vigour with which any opposition to the nazis, however minimal, was fought, as early as 1934. The papers include statements of denunciation by various individuals, and the views of the NSDAP, Trier, the mayor of Trier and the state prosecutor at the Sondergericht, Koblenz.     This collection comprises a school leaving certificate dated 1939, of Risa Elizabeth Novak, Pavel Novak's wife; a certificate from the Jewish Refugees Committee in London about her arrival from Austria in May 1939; and a certificate from a group of Austrian Trade Unionists in Great Britain, confirming the identity of her father and the fact that he was arrested for anti-fascist activities in 1934 and 1938.

  12. Papers of Heinz Werner Löwenstein

    The collection comprises two separate deposits from the family Löwenstein in 1988. The first (643/1/1) consists of correspondence between Heinz Werner Löwenstein and his parents, 1935-1940. The letters provide an interesting account of the difficulties encountered by a young immigrant trying to make his way in South Africa as well as of the life led by Jewish people in pre-war Berlin.     This collection consists of two surviving diaries of a British Jewish resident of Jersey, Channel Islands, whilst in internment camps first in Compiegne, France, and later Biberach, Germany. In addition to a daily account of life in the respective camps at Compiegne and Biberach, the diaries contain notes, addresses, recipes and draft letters.

  14. Otto Ernst Remer: copy report

    Copy manuscript account apparently by Major General Otto Ernst Remer about his activities on the day of the attempted assassination of Hitler on 20 July 1944. The document is dated 2 April 1946. It is possible that the account was written whilst Remer was in custody during the period of de-nazification after the war. A note states that the first two pages were missing and that these had been supplied at a later date by a different depositor (G. Fleming).

  15. Various copy papers re 'The Dunera' refugee transport ship to Australia

    These various copy papers document the experiences of the German and Austrian internees transported to Australia on the 'Dunera' in 1940 and their subsequent detention in camps in Australia. The collection consists of copy personal and official papers relating to time spent at the camp; copy official papers relating to the passage of the 'Dunera' and the allegations of ill treatment on board and copy newspaper cuttings reporting the same. In addition there is contemporary copy correpondence of Herbert Goldsmith relating to the 'Dunera' affair.
