Streszczenie
Videotape testimony of Abe K., who was born in Kraśnik, Poland in 1923, the third of three children. He recalls his family's Hasidism; attending cheder from age three; his mother's death when he was nine; completing seven years of public school; graduating as an accountant from business school in Lublin; working in the family store; German invasion; hiding during round-ups for forced labor; his father being taken in his place; paying someone to replace his father; his brother's escape to the Soviet zone; ghettoization; his father's deportation to Budzyń in October 1942; deportation of his sister and stepmother (they did not survive); receiving letters from his father; visiting him briefly; a non-Jewish woman storing merchandise from their store which he sold; learning his father had been killed; slave labor building oil depots; an evacuation march in June 1944; escaping; hiding in a forest; assistance from a local Polish family; encountering Soviet troops; returning to Kraśnik; digging up valuables he and his father had buried; draft into the Soviet military; attending a seder in Warsaw; release from the military when the war was over; and traveling to the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp. Mr. K. shows photographs.
