Morris G. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Morris G. who was born in Praszka, Poland in 1914, three months after the death of his father. He tells how he lived in Praszka with his uncle and worked in his uncle's bakery until the age of sixteen. Living in ?o?dz? at the time of the German occupation of Poland, Mr. G. describes his flight to Warsaw to escape the Germans and his return to ?o?dz? shortly thereafter. He worked as a baker in the ?o?dz? ghetto until 1940, at which time he volunteered for a labor transport to Spiegelberg, Germany. He remained there building roads until 1943. Mr. G. recounts his transfer to Posen, near which he helped to build a labor camp where he later worked. He details the terrible conditions of the camp at Jaworzno, where he was sent after spending two weeks in Auschwitz, and where he spent eighteen months working outside and in a coal mine. He also tells how, as the Russian army advanced at the end of 1944, the prisoners of Jaworzno were evacuated to Germany. Mr. G. barely survived the death march to Gross Rosen via Blechhamner. He was subsequently transferred to the camps of Buchenwald, Scherzingen, Bissingen, and finally, to Ostrach, where he was liberated by the French on April 22, 1945.
