Acquisition
Source of acquisition is the Auswärtiges Amt. Politisches Archiv des Auswärtiges Amt, Germany (Diplomatic Archive of the German Ministry for Foreign Affairs). The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in 2014, and digital duplicates added in April 2019.
Scope and Content
Contains records relating to Nazi party movements in Germany and other countries, concentration camps, elections, emigration, the Kapp Putsch, reports on Jews around the world, expatriations, individuals like Thomas Mann, the exile press, Vatican reports, Pius XII, and Bishop Hudal. Included also are reports on hostility against Germans around the world, records on “relocation” issues in Eastern Europe, youth movements in Europe, "Jewish Question'" around the world, Dienststelle Ribbentrop, Jews in Bulgaria, the sterilization of “ Rheinland Bastarde”, and on racial questions.
System of Arrangement
Arranged in eight series: 1. Referat Deutschland, 1920-1934; 2. Inland II A/B, 1933-1941; 3. Inland I-D (Kirchliche Angelegenheiten), 1941-1944; 4. Inland II-C (Volkstumsfragen, Volksgruppen, Vomi), 1942-1944; 5. Inland II-D (Finanzfragen und Wirtschaftsfragen der Volksgruppen), 1932-1944; 6. Inland II-Gehiem, 1935-1944; 7. Inland I-Partei, 1930-1944; 8. D-VI Bauangelegenheiten in der Wilhemsstrasse), 1938-1944. “Referat Deutschland”, 1920-1934, after 1933, was renamed as a record group “PO N. E.” (Nationale Erhebung) and after 1934 organized in a group "Inland 2" (a name given in 1941, and now used for the entire collection).
