Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Żydowski Instytut Historyczny im. Emanuela Ringelbluma (ŻIH), (Sygn.123). Probably the passports have been handed over by the Polish Consulate in Palestine in Haifa to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw. From there they were transferred to ŻIH in Warsaw. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection from the Ż̇ydowski Instytut Historyczny im. Emanuela Ringelbluma via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in Sep. 2007.

Scope and Content

The collection contains 3747 passports of Jews, Polish citizens, that had emigrated to Palestine before the war, aiming to settle there. Most of them are with photos. Some of them with group photos, as each passport was made up for entire family.
