Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Żydowski Instytut Historyczny im. Emanuela Ringelbluma (ŻIH), Sygn. 307. The Centralny Komitet Żydów w Polsce. Wydział Ewidencji i Statystyki (Central Committee of Polish Jews (CKŻP), Department of Registration and Statistics), compiled the registration forms and index books from 1945 to 1947. The Żydowski Instytut Historyczny im. Emanuela Ringelbluma (Jewish Historical Institute), (ŻIH) acquired the records after 1947 and placed them in a Sygn. 307. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection from ŻIH via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s International Archives Project in 1996. During current rearrangement of ŻIH holdings a new record group was assigned for the records of CKŻP, Department of Registration and Statistics: Sygn. 303/V (the respective sub-sub-groups also are assigned to the records of CKŻP, Department of Registration and Statistics). This microfilming project is completed.

Scope and Content

Contains index books and registration forms for Polish Jewish survivors, compiled by the Central Committee of Polish Jews, Department of Statistics. The indexes contain only basic information; the registration forms include each survivor’s date of birth, mother’s name, address in 1939, postwar address, and ghettos and camps of imprisonment during the Holocaust.

System of Arrangement

The system of arrangement of the source repository has been preserved in the microfilmed reels. This collection is arranged chronologically and alphabetically in five series: Series1. Index books (Reels 1- 5); Series 2. Individual registration forms for Polish Jewish survivors, 1946: A- W ( Reels 6 -13); Series 3. individual registration forms for Polish Jewish survivors, 1947: A-W ( Reels 14- 193); Series 4. Individual registration forms for Polish Jewish survivors, 1947: W-Z (Rz) ( Reels 194-206); Series 5. Individual registration forms for Polish Jewish survivors with detailed information (Reels 207- 261).
