Source of acquisition is the German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv), Collection NS 4. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's International Programs Divisions purchased the collection from the Bundesarchiv in Berlin, Germany in Apr. 2000. The United States Holocaust Museum Archives received 2,196 microfiche in Sept. 2000, accretion of 723 microfiche in 2004, and accretion of 52 microfilms in 2012.

Restrictions on access. To access Bundesarchiv collections researchers must fill out a "Request for Access to Bundesarchiv Documents." German and English-language copies of the "Law on the Preservation and Use of Federal Archival Documents" are available at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives reference desk. The requirement was stipulated by the Bundesarchiv in the cooperative agreement signed with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
