Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Polish State Archives in Białystok. Urząd Wojewódzki w Białymstoku (Provincial Administration of Białystok, Poland), Sygn 71. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received copies of the microfilm by exchange via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Programs Department in December 1998.

Scope and Content

Contains reports, registers, and various other documents from the Repatriation Department, General Political Branch, and the Social Branch of the Bialystok Provincial Administration dating from 1944 to 1950. The records contain information about repatriation, terrorism by underground groups, religious confessions, minority groups in Bialystok, including Jews, and war damage to Jewish communities.

The system of arrangement of the source repository has been preserved in the microfilmed reel. Arranged in three series: 1. Oddział ogólno – polityczny; 2. Oddział społeczny. Sprawy wyznań religijnych; 3. Inspektorat odszkodowań wojennych.
