Acquisition
Source of acquisition is the T︠S︡entralen dŭrzhaven arkhiv, Bulgaria (Central State Archives). The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received copies of materials in 1992.
Scope and Content
Contains photocopies of articles, petitions, letters, and various other documents relating to the persecution and rescue of Jews in Bulgaria during the Holocaust. The collection comes from several sources, among them the Central Consistory of the Jews in Bulgaria; The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Church; The Doctors Union; and The sons and wives of Jewish participants in the Liberation War of 1877-1878. Also included in the collection are rescue appeals from organizations to save Bulgarian Jews, and a public letter (published in the press) written and signed by former Bulgarian ministers, lawyers, etc.
