Acquisition
Source of acquisition is the Państwowe Muzeum Oświęcim-Brzezinka (State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau). The Häftlingspersonalbogen (prisoner's registration forms) were created by officials at Auschwitz concentration camp from May 1942 to Oct. 1944. Microfilm copies of the records were created in 1992 and 1993. The film was delivered to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives on 23 Apr. 1993.
Scope and Content
Contains Häftlingspersonalbogen (prisoner registration forms), numbered 1 through 331, for female prisoners at the women's camp at Auschwitz (reel 1) and Häftlingspersonalbogen, numbered 1 through 4,50,0 for male prisoners at the Auschwitz main camp (reels 2-9). Each of the Häftlingspersonalbogen contains personal information such as date and place of birth, marital status, date of arrest, date of entry into the camp, nationality, occupation, religion, race, and physical appearance. Registration forms relate to prisoners, mainly Jews, from different European countries. Also included is information about the use of prisoners for labor, prisoners transferred from Majdanek, and divisions of the Reichssicherheitshauptamt arresting Jews to be sent to Auschwitz.
System of Arrangement
Arranged in two series: 1. Registration forms for female prisoners at the women's camp at Auschwitz, # 1-331 (Reel 1); 2. Registration forms for male prisoners at the Auschwitz main camp, # 1-4,500 (Reel 2-9). Organized chronologically by date of registration. Some forms dated 1943 are found out of sequence at the end of reel 9; otherwise the forms are organized chronologically.
