Arquivo Naçional da Torre do Tombo

Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Arquivo Naçional da Torre do Tombo (Portuguese National Archives). Records created by various government agencies under the Salazar dictatorship. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received this collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in April 2013.

Scope and Content

Contains selected records of Portuguese agencies under António Salazar's regime. Included in this collection are correspondence, reports, mostly relating to Jewish refugees and trade relations with other nations, the question of sending German Jewish refugees to Portuguese colonies, and the Salazar’s personal archives.
