Acquisition

Source of acquisition the University of Sydney. Archive of Australian Judaica. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection in July 2012 via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project. Benzion Patkin collected records thought to be irretrievably lost to the history and archive. His widow, Hemda Patkin, gave her husband's papers to the Archive of Australian Judaica over a number of years.

Scope and Content

Contains records of the Magen David Adom (a "Jewish Red Cross" founded in Tel Aviv in 1930 as a First Aid Society) collected by Benzion Patkin. Includes annual reports, correspondence, newspapers, and photographs and relates to the Magen David Adom assistance to Palestine, and to Jews in Europe and Shanghai.
