      <p><![CDATA[The 4th Directorate within MGB was created by MGB order No. 00244 in June 12, 1946. The same departments were formed in Soviet republics (including the UkrSSR), lower territories and regions. The main task of the unit was prosecution of state criminals, and since the early 1950's, the fight against the anti-Soviet OUN underground. According to the MGB order No. 00497 dated November 2, 1946, the 4th Directorate and the relevant units in the republican and local state were responsible identification of employees and agents of foreign intelligence and counterintelligence, persons who collaborated with the Nazis during the Second World War, participants in atrocities and mass destruction of civilian population, police officers, employees of the German occupation administration, traitors of Motherland.]]></p>
