Scope and Content

Jaap Kaas (1898-1972) was een joodse beeldhouwer. Kaas werkte voornamelijk naar levende dieren. Hij was vrijwel dagelijks in Artis en had er een aantal decennia lang een eigen atelier onder de Artis bibliotheek. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog moest Kaas onderduiken. Na de oorlog heeft hij zich ingezet om kunstenaars op te sporen die tijdens de bezetting de kant van de nazi’s hadden gekozen. Het archief bevat correspondentie; autografen; persoonlijke papieren; tekeningen en schetsboekjes; biografische foto's; glasnegatieven. Veel van dit materiaal heeft te maken met de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
