The earliest archival data about the existence of the Jewish Community in Skopje comes from the letter sent by the Metropolitan Neophyte, to the President of the Jewish community in Skopje, Eliezer Navarro about the formation of the Red Cross on December 8th, in 1915.

The document on the "Rules of the Jewish Religion of the Jewish Community in Skopje", adopted in 1936, provides information on the organization of the Jewish Community as an independent institutional body. The document informs that its nature is accomplished by managing the religious-administrative, cultural and charitable institutions, as well as religious property, both movable and immovable. The function of the Jewish Community in Skopje is realized through uniting and educating all Jews individuals and families, in Skopje through the synagogal activities and school programs.

During the Second World War, the Skopje Jewish Community, continued to exist in changed conditions, imposed by the laws of fascist Bulgaria. In August 1942, the Commissariat for Jewish Questions was constituted within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Public Health in Sofia. With this, the Jewish Community was subordinated to the Commissariat.

In parallel with the establishment of the Commissariat, the Council of Ministers adopted the "Rules on the Organization and Management of the Jewish Communities." The Jewish Community's administration was consisted of: a delegate, a president and four to six members appointed by the delegate. Also, Jewish associations and foundations ceased to exist.

After the liberation, a constitutive session of the Macedonian-Jewish National Liberation Committee was held on December 26th, 1944 in Skopje. The renewed Jewish Community in Skopje dealt with the problems of helping the Jews who survived the Holocaust, solving their housing and social needs, restoring the synagogue, as well as identifying the number of victims in the Holocaust in Macedonia.
