          <p><![CDATA[This fonds contains only the name of the people cancelled from the Judicial records-office, because they died or for other reasons, for a total of five thousand personal files. Among the so –called “subversives”, there were of course also Jews. Knowing the name of a Jewish person it is possible to find out whether he or she had ever been under surveillance, for a short period of time or for one’s entire life. Although Jews were not labelled as such, and Police did not look after them just because they were Jews, it is quite interesting to see what happened when the anti-Semitic laws came into force (1938). ]]></p>

              <p><![CDATA[Dante Finzi, born in Mantua in 1886, was labelled as "ebreo di razza" (of Jewish race) when he was condemned for “monetary infractions” in 1939, as he tried to bring liras out of the Italian border, to Switzerland. Actually, police report says that there was “an investigation going on about the Jews in order to avoid monetary smuggling”, and each one of the people involved together with Dante Finzi was clearly indicated as "Jewish" (underlined), if this was the case.]]></p>

              <p><![CDATA[Achille Finzi was a lawyer; born in Mantua in 1853, he died in 1916. He was under surveillance because he was a republican: none of the documents related to him ever contains the world “Jew”. Only when his death certificate was asked by “Ministero dell’Interno” (Ministry of the Interior) in 1942 in order to cancel his name from the Central Political Records-Office in Rome, then the word “Ebreo” (Jewish) was added on his death certificate using a stamp.]]></p>
