Documentation from Regional Archives in Ukraine, 1934-1966

In the collection there are files from the following regional archives in Ukraine: the State Archive in the Lvov region, the State Archive in the Ivano-Frankovsk region, the State Archive in the Chervovtsy region, the State Archive in the Khmelnitskiy region, the State Archive in the Vinnitsa region, the State Archive in the Kiev region, the State Archive in the Rovno region, the State Archive in the Ternopol region, the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine (Lvov), the State Archive of the Office of Internal Affairs in Ukraine, the State Archive of the City of Kiev, the Vernadskiy Central Scientific Library of the Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Manuscripts (Kiev), the General Education Branch of the City of Kiev, the State Archive in the Cherkassy region, the State Archive in the Dnepropetrovsk region; the State Archive in the Kirovograd region; the State Archive in the Nikolayev region; the State Archive in the Poltava region; the State Archive in the Beregovo (Zakarpatye) region; the Archive Department of the State Department of the Ukraine Security Service in the Zhitomir area.In the collection there is comprehensive documentation regarding the history of the war in occupied Ukraine and much documentation related to the period before the German or Romanian occupation, from after the annexation of areas of Poland, Carpathian Ruthenia, parts of Bessarabia and North Bukovina to Ukraine. In the Records Group there is also documentation related to the Jews who lived in areas of Poland before they were annexed to the Soviet Union, information regarding the Jewish political parties, religious organizations, women, sport and youth who were active from the late 1920s until 1939. The Records Group also includes lists of students, among them Jewish students who studied at universities, 1939-1941, file cards of population registries, information concerning the German and Romanian occupation regimes, establishment of ghettos, confiscation of Jewish property, forced labor, partisan activities, Nazi crimes and crimes of the Ukrainian collaborators, information regarding the damage caused to the residents and Ukrainian economy and trials conducted against Nazi criminals and collaborators. Description of the collection:There are reports, surveys, notices and permits issued by local committees of the Communist Party in Ukraine related to the economic and administrative situation, partisan activities and nationalist organizations in the regions under German and Romanian occupation, official and administrative documentation of the Polish authorities in Stanislawow and its surrounding villages and in Lvov and its surrounding villages regarding the Jews from the late 1920s until 1939. In the Records Group there are also lists of residents of Rowne including lists of Jews who voted in the elections for the Polish Sejm, 1938-1939, directives and correspondence of the local authorities in Mukachevo regarding Zionist activities, rights and economic problems of Jewish-Hungarian organizations, 05 May 1939-21 September 1940 .In the Records group there are also five microfilms including the file card catalogue of the Jewish community in Lwow prepared by the Lwow community's Population Registry Department, 01 July 1941-01 January 1943. There is also official documentation of the occupation authorities including orders, directives and announcements of the occupation authorities and Ukrainian nationalists regarding the Jews, official and administrative documentation from the Judenrats in Stanislawow, Drohobycz, Rowne and elsewhere, lists and personal file cards of partisans including a large number of Jewish partisans who were active in various regions in Ukraine.Additionally, there is official and administrative documentation from the archive in Vinnitsa regarding the registration of Jews and Gypsies, confiscation of Jewish property, forced labor, establishment of ghettos, special taxes imposed on the Jews and help extended by the Centrala Evreilor (CE - Jewish Center) Organization in Bucharest to the Jews deported from Romania. There is also documentation of the Romanian military regime in Transnistria from the regional archive in Nikolayev, 1941-1943, the Romanian military regime in Transnistria from the regional archive in Chernovtsy, 1941-1944, and official correspondence of the Romanian military regime in the Golta district with Krivoye Ozero and Tiraspol and with various bodies. The collection also contains lists of Jews who were deported, information regarding forced labor and administration in the district.The documentation was created by various bodies such as the civilian administrative headquarters, the Gendarmerie headquarters and more. The collection also contains copies of prosecution documents regarding the indictments presented against Nazis and Ukrainian collaborators concerning confiscation of property, and torture and murder of Jews, 1941-1943. The documentation also includes the number of those who perished arranged by gender and age, the names of several of the victims, the names of Nazi criminals, and the names of Ukrainian collaborators.There are also lists of residents, including Jews who returned from the camps to Carpathian Ruthenia after the liberation in 1945.
