Acquisition

The microfilms of the collection were donated by the United Sates Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2002.

Scope and Content

The collection (1939-1945; bulk 1943) contains registration records for over 13,000 Jews of Thessaloniki that were completed prior to their deportation to Auschwitz. The cards contain personal information as well as itemized lists of real and material property subsequently Aryanized by occupying forces and Greek collaborators.

Finding Aids

  • A catalogue is not available at ACT. A guide to this collection entitled "Jewish Community of Salonika 1943" by Aure Recanati is available in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Library under call number [name lists] DS135 G72 T48 2000. The guide duplicates most of the material available in this collection and contains additional information about victims that is culled from other sources. The guide also provides English-language translations for all of the information in the collection and explanations for transliteration rules.
