Acquisition
The fonds was originally stored in the premises of the police office but these were set on fire at the end of the war. The documents were taken care of by the Liberec branch of the Town Committee and transferred to Prague. In 1957-1958, the fonds was together with the materials of the Government President in Usti nad Labem handed over to the archives in Litomerice and then separated during the arrangement in 1961-1962. It was arranged by R. Kohlert, a documentation worker, in 1962-1963.
Scope and Content
The fonds contains some essential materials concerning the history of the Nazi occupation in 1939-1945 and the work of the police in 1938-1945. Jewish-related documents can be found in the following files: Passports and visa matters for Jews 1939-1941 (inv. No. 66), Identity cards compulsorily carried by Jews 1941 (inv. No. 86), Jewish family names 1940-1941 (inv. No. 161), Police surveillance of Jews 1940-1942 (inv. No. 497). Records of Jews may also be expected in the following files: Cancelling trade establishments 1939-1935 (inv. No. 428), Religious organizations and their prohibition 1939-1944 (inv. No. 911-912).
System of Arrangement
The fonds was preserved in a disorganized state. It was stored according to the marks and in line with the original file scheme. It consists of 147 boxes divided into groups: I. Presidium and staff files, II. Alien police, nationality, passports, III. Traffic police, IV. Trade police, and V. Police criminal cases and other matters. Registry finding aids have not been preserved.
