Landgericht (Reichs Regional Court) of Cheb
Extent and Medium
55,20 linear meters
Acquisition
During the activity of the court, files were stored in the court building in Cheb, where they remained until 1963, when some of them were handed over to the State Archives in Kadaň. The rest of the agenda was still located in the registry office of the District Court in Cheb. This was taken in 1971–1972 to the Žlutice branch of the State Archives in Plzeň, from where it was moved in 2006 to the branch in Klášter near Nepomuk. The first part of the documents handed over was arranged and inventoried in 1964, the second part in 1973. A negligible part of the fonds remains unarranged.
Scope and Content
The fonds contains documents relating to the judicial, political and economic development of detached regions in West Bohemia in 1938–1945. For study of Jewish history, it is possible in particular to use call № 2005, box № 1 (Organisation of officials, 1939), call № 2008, box № 1 (List of staff status, 1939–1942) and also the personal files of legal representatives (call № eA1 to eZ4, box № 86–91) and notaries (call № fB1 to fT3, box № 91–92), which provide information on racial matters and staffing circumstances in the judicial system in the Sudetenland Reichsgau (Sudeten region). Attention should also be paid to the civil and commercial files of the Provincial Court in Cheb, in particular ref. N (bankruptcy matters, box № 191–201, 1938–1941), R (marital disputes, in particular the divorce agenda, box № 206–226, 1939–1945), F (declaration of death, box № 230–235, 1939–1942) and O (company matters, box № 236–252, 1938–1945), which contain information on oppression and persecution of the Jews during the occupation.
System of Arrangement
The fonds contains Administrative files (Main files, Collective and Auxiliary files, Personal files of legal representatives and notaries), Files of the actual judicial agenda (Files of civil chambers and the commercial panel) and Registry finding aids for them.
