Acquisition
The registry of the office was taken over by the Provincial Archives in Opava in 1949. In 1950 it was moved from the cellars of the building of the District National Committee in Opava to an archive depositary in a lacunae and fragmented state. The fonds was arranged in the years 1957–1958 and given an inventory. In 1962 accessions were added to it. The inventory, including addendum, is accessible on http://www.archives.cz/zao/digitalni_archiv.
Scope and Content
The fonds contains sources for all sections of state administration, education and economics in the government circuit Opava of the Reich’s Sudetenland Reichsgau (region) from the years 1938–1945. The political and economic situation reports and minutes from the conferences of the landrats (Land Councillor's Offices) are of particular value. Jewish history is covered by documents concerning the adoption of distinguishing names for Jews (inv. № 1794) and Jewish personal names (inv. № 1898–1899, 1910), decrees and measures concerning Jewish registers (inv. № 1912), requests of Jewish persons of mixed race for equalization with Germans (inv. № 1913–1914, 1916–1917), decrees concerning the Nuremburg Race Laws (inv. № 1915), sources concerning marriages between Germans and Jewish persons of mixed race (inv. № 1918), decrees and measures concerning the taking of Jewish names (inv. № 1931) and claims against Jewish escapees (inv. № 3510).
System of Arrangement
The fonds has survived lacunose, and it consists mainly of Official (Accounting) books and Files. During its arrangement, its original classification according to the disposition schedule from 1943 was preserved, this being into departments and within them by sections – units.
