History
Center of Documentation of Contemporary History of the Kabardin-Balkar Republic was established in 1991, on the basis of the Archive of the Communist Party of Kabardin-Balkar Republic. Archive of the Communist Party of Kabardin-Balkar Republic was established in 1939, on the basis of the Communist Party Institute (Istpart) archives that were created in 1922.
In October 1942, most of the archive documents were destroyed the German occupying army. Only small minority of the archival resources were evacuated before to Tbilisi. Thus most of the pre World War II documentation was lost.
In 1970s the staff of the Communist Party Archive copied various pre 1939 documents from other Soviet local and central archives, enlarging the collection of the archive.
Geographical and Cultural Context
Archival collections holds various documents from the history of Kabardin-Balkar Republic from 1709 to the present. Most of the documentation is related to the post 1917 period, history of the Communist party, its satellite organizations and administration of the Soviet State.
Mandates/Sources of Authority
Archive operates on the basis of the decree of the President of Russian Federation from 24 August 1991 "On the Party Archives" № 652.

Opening Times
Archive is opened Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, with the lunch break between 1 and 2 pm.
