History

Archive was established as Central State Literature Archive in 1941, partly on the basis of the collection of former National Literature Museum (Goslit Muzeum).

Geographical and Cultural Context

Archive is the biggest Russian repository of material referring to the history of the Russian literature, theater, cinema, visual arts and architecture.

Archival and Other Holdings

Archival collections refer to the cultural history of Russia, among them all periods of the Russian literature history, arts and social thought, contact between the artists and cultural enterpreneurs from Russia and abroad. Archive holds documents of the cultural administration institutions, theaters, cinemas, book editorial houses, cultural societies. Big amount of its collections are private documents of writers, literary critics, visual artists, musicians, cinema and theater directors.

Reading Rooms of the Archive:

Manuscripts Reading Room is opened: Monday, Tuesday: 9 am - 7 pm Wednesday, Thursday: 9 am - 5 pm Friday: 9 am - 3 pm

Microfilms and Institutional Documents Reading Room: Monday, Thursday: 10 am - 5 pm Tuesday, Wednesday 10 am - 7 pm Friday 10 am - 3 pm
