Archiwum Państwowe we Wrocławiu - Oddział w Jeleniej Górze

The State Archive in Jelenia Góra was created 1927 as the Stadtarchive Hirschberg. It was located at the Aussere Burgstrasse. In 1932 it was reorganized and named the Stadt- und Kreisarchive Hirschberg. After the World War II (August 14, 1945) the Polish authorities reactivated the town archive in Jelenia Góra. It was the first Polish archive in former German territory. In 1951 this archive was reorganized again as the branch of the Voivodship State Archive in Wrocław. In 1976, according to the reform of state administration, the archive became the Jelenia Góra Voivodship State Archive. In 1991 it was reorganized again into the branch of Wrocław State Archive.

Nowadays. The branch of Wrocław State Archive in Jelenia Góra works on the ground of the Act on National Archival Records and Archives of July 14, 1983, Journal of Law, (Dziennik Ustaw) No 38, 1983.07.19 with later changes.

Since 2005 the archive is located in former barracks building at Kazimierskiego street.

The archive in Jelenia Góra possesses the following kinds of holdings:

• records of towns and villages (from 16th century),
• self-government and local administration documents (after 1945),
• documents of banks and financial institutions,
• birth, marriage and death records,
• documents of Catholic and Protestant parishes,
• documents of German land estates,
• documents of political parties and organizations (PZPR).
