Archival and Other Holdings

The Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork mostly has collections on the history of camp Westerbork (1939-1971), the persecutions of Jews in the Netherlands, and the post-war history. The focus is on the period 1939-1945. The collection consists of official documents, ego documents, photos, drawings, items, interviews and books. The ego documents contain letters and cards written in the camp or thrown out of a deportation train, diaries and memoirs written later onwards. The photo collection contains about 8,000 items and documents the daily life in the camp and pictures from daily life or the internees before the war. Most of the drawings are portrets of internees. The official documents vary from transport lists, Lagerbefehlen, announcements, camp cards, work cards, etc., including a full collection of 'De Westerborker' (25 editions, April-June 1945).
