History

The city archive of Heerlen, since 1924 the municipal archive of Heerlen, has become Rijckheyt - Centrum voor Regionale Geschiedenis in April 2006. Rijckheyt is Middle Dutch for "treasure" or "treasury".

Archival and Other Holdings

Rijckheyt - centrum voor Regionale Geschiedenis (or Center for Regional History is the repository of the municipality of Brunssum, the municipality Gulpen-Wittem, the municipality of Heerlen, the municipality of Simpelveld, and the municipality of Voerendaal. In addition, the archive provides management and availability of the historical archives of the municipality Nuth and its former municipalities.

Opening Times

Rijckheyt is open from Tuesday to Thursday from 10am to 5 pm and every Saturday oneven week number from 12pm to 5pm.

Conditions of Access

Materials that want to be used on Saturday have to be requestoned on Thursday before 5pm.

Accessibility

The amount of parking spaces in the direct vicinity of Rijckheyt are very limited. It is recommended to park your car in the parking garage at Uilestraat.
