De stukken zijn op 3 april 1989 ontvangen van M.W. Schakel te Noordeloos. Daarmee loste hij een belofte in, gedaan bij de opening van de tentoonstelling over de Tweede Wereldoorlog op 3 mei 1980 in de Openbare Leeszaal en Bibliotheek aan de Pijlstraat (zie Gorcumse Courant 7 mei 1980). Gedurende de oorlogsjaren was Schakel onder de schuilnaam "Jan Snor" verzetstrijder en fungeerde hij als commandant van de 6e compagnie van de N.B.S. strijdend gedeelte te Gorinchem. Het in die laatste hoedanigheid in 1945 gevormde archief hield hij onder zich. Het heeft niet meer de oorspronkelijke structuur...
