History

From 1 January, 2013 the Regional Archive of Dordrecht, Dordrecht Museum, Huis van Gijn and the Centrum Beeldende Kunst, merged into one organization for art, archives and history of the city of Dordrecht under the name of Dordrecht Museum.

Records Management and Collecting Policies

Apart from government archives the Regional Archives of Dordrecht also manages private archives and collections of individuals and institutions.

Archival and Other Holdings

Eight kilometers of archive material. It includes the widee and diverse collection of the Regional Archives of Dordrecht. In addition to printed material such as all newspapers from Dordrecht and an extensive library, there are hundreds of meters with handwritten documents on paper and parchment, the oldest piece dates from 1200.

The Regional Archive of Dordrecht is open from Tuesday to Friday from 11am to 5pm.

Conditions of Access

In the reading of Regional Archives Dordrecht you can us the original records. The archive has an external repository. Therefore, original documents (if not digitized) need to be requested in advance. This can be done at home via the website or in the reading room. It is not possible to make telephone requests for materials.

At the first visit to the reading room you receive, after showing a valid ID, a visitors number. With this number you can apply for personal records using the application system. If you do not have a visitor number and want to apply for pieces from home, you can simply enter '12345' as your visitors number.

Accessibility

The Regional Archive of Dordrecht located at a fifteen minute walking distance from the train station and a five minute walking distance from the parking lot on the Korte Kolfstraat 235.

Reproduction Services

Copies on a plain copier (ie no book copier), can be made on site. More than ten copies or copies that can be copied to the book copier, will be sent home or can be picked up later in the study. The processing time of these orders is 10 working days. When the nature of the material allows it scans can be made. These can be put on a USB stick or be sent digitally after payment. Also, it is allowed to use your own camera without flash to make copies of the documents.
